New ESP Project Autumn 2007

The application of weblogs for teaching and learning ESP has proved beneficial.
Majority of students consider their weblogs as personal diaries or notebooks
for consolidating language knowledge and writing entries on various topics.
Publication of contributions online encourages learners to raise their writing standards
and develop awareness of weblog reading by general public.

Here are the weblogs of 1st year students who study ESP for psychology at
Mykolas Romeris University, Vilnius, Lithuania.

Weblogs of students who study psychology are listed below.

NEW PROJECT

In 2007 I started a new project with students learning ESP at university level.
There are five groups of students' of different specializations: social waork,
law and penitentiary activities, and psychology.
Students are given various assignments in their ESP classes. One of the common
tasks is to write essays or summaries with the aim of improving
writing skills in English and employing the skills of searching for reliable
professional information either online or elewhere.
The links to learners' weblogs are provided here. Anyone who is interested
in students' contributions are welcome to enter and write comments on their
entries.

Language Awareness - Students' project

Learner development depends to a great extent on language awareness which implies not only a focus on language itself, but also a cognitive reflection upon language functions.

Language awareness must be fostered by giving learners various choices in learning activities. The diversity and novelty of choices stimulate learner interest and have a potential for developing language awareness.

The aim of this study has been to foster language awareness through the application of the latest innovation of ICT which has been coined a weblog. An increasing interest to using blogs in education suggests their application in teaching / learning English. In this experiment, students created their own blogs and used them for accomplishing various creative tasks.

I have coordinated the implementation of this project. My colleagues Lilija Anusiene and Viktorija Mazeikiene have encouraged their students to accomplish some assignments with the aim of raising learners' awareness in language usage and actively participated in achieving this aim.

You will be able to enter the students' blogs through the following links.
